EXPERIENCE

An Abridged History

INVESTMENT ADVISOR REPRESENTATIVE

ISELER FINANCIAL, LLC

Aug 2019 - Present

I run an independent registered investment advisory firm in Durham NC. Make money easy.

TOURING AUDIO ENGINEER, TOUR MANAGER, PRODUCTION MANAGER

Feb or Mar 2005 - July 2019

I traveled all over the world a bunch of times with a bunch of different bands, some of them among my very favorites. You'll have to pick up the bar tab before I'll tell you which ones I liked; you'll have to pick up 10 bar tabs before I'll tell you which ones I didn't.

RECORDING ENGINEER, STUDIO MANAGER

SOMA ELECTRONIC MUSIC STUDIOS

Aug 2001 - mid 2009

I started recording bands for a living straight out of school. What a charmed life! John McEntire was a generous and patient boss and I am eternally grateful.

Bands during this period:

Perfect Panther (bass guitar, backing vocals)

Re:Rec (pointy guitar, sometimes vocals)

Auditioned for touring rhythm guitar with The Libertines (filling in for lead singer and co-founder Peter Doherty, who couldn't get into the US because of drug arrests. I didn't get the gig, which was almost certainly for the best.)

AUDIO ENGINEER
NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO (CHICAGO BRANCH)

Sep 2001 - maybe late 2002 or early 2003?

Staff audio engineer for NPR, recording and editing audio for broadcast (including "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me", a co-production of WBEZ). This was the first job from which I was fired. Thanks, Lorna White, you were a great boss and did a great job training me and letting me go. I mean that with zero sarcasm, Lorna is rad.

AN EDUCATION
WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY

Aug 1997 - Jun 2001

Bachelor of Arts - Mathematics, minoring in Philosophy

Awarded Presidential Scholar in Mathematics and Statistics (2001)

Recipient of a WMU Excellence Award, the Colonel Charles Bayliss Scholarship, a WMU Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Award, member of Pi Mu Epsilon honorary mathematics society, pretty sure I graduated Phi Kappa Phi.

Band during this period:

Beowulf Scantron Test (white guitar, sometimes vocals)

Employment experience during this period:

Martini's Pizza – working the pizza ovens, pizza prep station, morning prep cook, dishwasher

Broadside Studios – staff engineer (first paid engineering job! Thanks Mike Roach!)

Key Club Recording Company – assisting with first stages of building a recording studio (unpaid, thanks Bill & Jessica!)

Private mathematics tutor

Student proofreader of Mathematical Proofs: A Transition to Advanced Mathematics by Chartrand, Polimeni, Zhang (unpaid, uncredited)

Grading assistant to Dr Niloufer Mackey (no idea if I was paid or received credit for this, but Dr Mackey was great. Thank you Dr Mackey!)

Cafeteria worker in Harvey Hall (I believe? It was the one in which I lived, though the name is lost to time.)

FARM HAND
ISELER DAIRY INCORPORATED

Summer 1989 - Summer 1994

I grew up on a dairy farm. I started receiving a paycheck and paying taxes in 1989 at age 10, but in reality I have been working since at least age 7. I loved growing up on a farm until around age 14-15. Then I hated it. I was an angry young man with a lot to prove. Thanks for your patience, Dad.
